CAIRO, Nov 22 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah ElSisi received a phone call Friday from Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, to discuss the latest regional and international developments, especially the situation in the Middle East.
The president praised Spain's fair stance vis-à-vis the Palestinian cause, especially since the outbreak of the war in the Gaza Strip.
For his part, the Spanish prime minister said Egypt's role is substantial in achieving stability in the Middle East and combating terrorism and extremism regionally and internationally.
Sánchez said Egypt has a key role, referring to ongoing Egyptian efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, provide humanitarian aid and avoid escalating the conflict in the region and turning it into a comprehensive regional war, according to Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el-Shenawy.
The Spokesman said the call also addressed overall relations between Egypt and Spain and stressed the importance of promoting Egyptian-Spanish ties, especially in the economic and investment fields, along with luring more Spanish companies to invest in development projects in Egypt, with a view to ensuring localization of the nuts and bolts of the Egyptian industry and heightening joint manufacturing.
President Sisi voiced - once again - Egypt's solidarity with the government and people of Spain in facing effects of the floods that recently swept southeastern Spain, wishing safety for the country and its friendly people, he added. (MENA)
