CAIRO, April 24 (MENA) - The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities announced the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) will be temporarily closed from June 15 to July 5 as part of the ongoing final preparations for its official inauguration, slated for July 3.
The closure is attributed to logistics preparations to be carried out by the ministry inside the museum during this period.
CEO of the GEM Authority Ahmed Ghoneim said the museum will open to visitors again following its official inauguration.
The museum's soft opening was in November 2023, followed by a trial run in October 2024. It unveiled its gardens, cafes, the hanging obelisk, the atrium, the grand staircase and the main galleries, which house 12 exhibition halls.
The museum will house over 100,000 artefacts. To date, approximately 50,000 artefacts have already been relocated to the new museum. (MENA)
