CAIRO, April 18 (MENA) - Curators of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) are organizing a training program for tour guides to inform them about the museum and its main galleries, ahead of the official inauguration of the museum on July 3.
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy said the program aims to ensure tour guides are well-informed about the museum and the artifacts on display, which come from various historical periods, highlight the richness of ancient Egyptian civilization.
The program aims to enable tour guides to give tourists information about the artifacts on display in a smooth and interesting way, said the minister.
On his part, CEO of the GEM Authority Ahmed Ghoneim said the program is arranged three days a week in April and May, with an average of 60 tour guides per day.
Ghoneim added tour guides wishing to participate in the program can register on the following application: (https://forms.office.com/r/4Jr8nymfNm).
The museum's soft opening was in November 2023, followed by a trial run in October 2024. It unveiled its gardens, cafés, the hanging obelisk, the atrium, the grand staircase and the main galleries, which house 12 exhibition halls.
The museum will house over 100,000 artefacts. To date, approximately 50,000 artefacts have already been relocated to the new museum.
Situated near the newly-inaugurated Sphinx International Airport and overlooking the iconic Pyramids of Giza, the GEM is set to become the largest museum worldwide dedicated to a single civilization: ancient Egypt. (MENA)
