CAIRO, Jan 11 (MENA) – The foreign ministers of Egypt, Eritrea and Somalia have praised their countries’ successful cooperation to achieve security in Somalia.
The ministers’ remarks came on Saturday in a joint statement following a meeting of the joint tripartite ministerial committee of the three countries.
They also commended the ongoing cooperation between Cairo and Mogadishu to contribute to fostering efforts on peacekeeping efforts in Somalia, praising Egypt’s participation in the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
Under the outcome of the summit held among the leaders of Egypt, Eritrea and Somalia in Asmara in October 2024, Abdelatty called for holding the first meeting of the trilateral ministerial committee.
During the meeting, the ministers also discussed means of enhancing security in the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa region, in addition to reviewing means to support Somalia to uproot terrorism and defend its land and sea borders.
The talks also tackled the situation in Sudan.
Meanwhile, Abdelatty commended the support of Somalia and Eritrea for Egypt's candidate for the top UNESCO post Khaled Anani. (MENA)
