CAIRO, Dec 18 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and his Indonesian counterpart Prabowo Subianto Wednesday called on Israel to end its occupation of the Golan Heights.

They strongly condemned any attempts targeting the sovereignty of Syria and its territorial integrity, particularly the Israeli aggression on the Golan Heights.

In a joint statement following official talks between the two leaders, both presidents agreed that the sole, sustainable solution to the situation in Syria is the launch of a comprehensive and democratic peaceful, political process as per UN Security Council Resolution 2254, which is giving priority to achieve aspiration and interests of the Syrian people and ensure sovereignty and unity of the Syrian lands.

As for the latest developments in the Palestinian lands, the two leaders tackled ways of supporting efforts to reach an everlasting ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensure the safe delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians in Gaza without obstacles.

The Indonesian president said he is appreciating Egypt's pivotal role in facilitating the entry of aid to Gaza and the country asserted its commitment to working with Egypt in this regard.

The two presidents denounced the displacement of the Palestinians and voiced their full rejection of Israeli practices in the Palestinian lands.

They also condemned Israeli settlement activities and violence committed by settlers and the demolition of houses of the Palestinians and military raids on Palestinian cities.

The statement added that Presidents Sisi and Subianto confirmed the necessity of the Israeli withdrawal from the lands occupied on June 4, 1967 along with stopping all unilateral measures and abiding by international law and the implementation of UN Security Council related resolutions.

The two leaders agreed on the necessity of establishing an independent, viable Palestinian state along the June 4,1967 borders with al-Quds as its capital.

On the Lebanese affair, the two presidents welcomed the ceasefire deal in Lebanon that was implemented on November 27,2024 and they urged Israel to abide by it.

The Indonesian president commended Egypt's pivotal role in the Middle East region and said his country is fully supporting Egypt's leading role.

He said Indonesia seeks to boost bilateral cooperation in confronting regional and international challenges, especially supporting the independence of Palestine.

Shifting to joint ties, both leaders reiterated commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation in various domains.

They hailed the potentials of the economy of the two countries and stressed confidence in maintaining the growth of the volume of trade and investment between the two countries.

They highlighted the importance of continuing cooperation in education between the two countries.

Additionally, Indonesia said it is very interested in promoting cooperation with Egypt and Al Azhar University to develop educational education, according to the joint statement.

They welcomed the resumption of direct flights between the two countries in November, 2023.

The two states said they are looking forward to holding the joint committee under the presidency of the foreign ministers of the two countries in Cairo in 2025.

The two leaders underscored the necessity of maintaining water and food security in the two countries, added the statement.

At the end of the meeting, the Indonesian president invited president Sisi to visit Indonesia to further promote partnership between Egypt and Indonesia.

The trip will offer an important opportunity for achieving more peace, prosperity and progress for the two counties, he added. (MENA)
