CAIRO, Dec 1 (MENA - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates' Affairs Badr Abdelatty chaired on Wednesday the 21st session of the Council of Ministers of the Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8).

The meeting was held as part of preparations for the 11th D-8 Summit, which President Abdel Fattah El Sisi will chair Thursday in the presence of heads of state and government.

During the session, Egypt will take over the presidency of the D-8 group from Bangladesh.

The top diplomat said the summit comes at a critical timing in light of the occurrence of pressing regional and international events and unprecedented economic challenges that have direct impact on developing countries.

Abdelatty tackled the repercussions of the Israeli war on Gaza which resulted in a humanitarian catastrophe and destruction of infrastructure as well as the expansion of the Israeli aggression to include Syria and Lebanon in flagrant violations of international law.

These developments prompted Egypt to initiate a special session on Palestine and Lebanon during the summit’s proceedings tomorrow.

About future cooperation prospects among the D-8 members, he underlined the importance of strengthening collaboration among member states in all sectors and exploring new opportunities for economic and trade partnerships.

He stressed the need to empower the private sector, attract investments, and create an environment that stimulate greater cooperation among member states.

D-8 group includes Egypt, Turkey, Bangladesh, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, and Pakistan. (MENA)
