CAIRO, Dec 16 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty briefed European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib on Egypt's efforts to provide humanitarian support to Gaza, amid a deteriorating humanitarian situation in the Palestinian war-ravaged enclave due to Israel's incessant obstruction of humanitarian aid.
During a virtual meeting with Lahbib on Monday, Abdelatty also discussed ways to promote relations between Egypt and the European Union, especially in light of the worsening crises and common challenges in the region.
Congratulating the UN official on his new position, Abdelatty highlighted the fruitful results of the Cairo Ministerial Conference to Enhance Humanitarian Response in Gaza, held on December 2 under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, which helped in mobilizing more financial assistance for UN organizations operating in the embattled strip.
Abdelatty also hailed the EU-Egypt Strategic and Comprehensive Partnership announced in March, under which it has been agreed to support Egypt's efforts for hosting millions of refugees and migrants who enjoy the same services provided to Egyptian citizens, which constitutes a financial burden on the Egyptian government.
He also touched on the mounting burdens resulting from multiple crises in the region. (MENA)
