CAIRO, Dec 16 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty has affirmed Egypt's commitment to maintaining its support for activities of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) for effective response to any crises in the Middle East.

Abdelatty made the remarks during a virtual meeting with Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher on Monday to discuss how to promote joint coordination on humanitarian and relief issues amid multiple regional crises.

Congratulating the UN official on his new position, Abdelatty Egypt said Egypt will continue to fulfill its humanitarian role in the region, especially as it hosts the OCHA regional office for the Middle East and North Africa.

He briefed the UN official on Egypt's humanitarian support for the people of Gaza, Sudan and Lebanon.

Abdelatty also highlighted the fruitful results of the Cairo Ministerial Conference to Enhance Humanitarian Response in Gaza, held on December 2 under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

He applauded the conference's success in mobilizing more financial assistance for UN organizations operating in the war-ravaged Palestinian enclave.

Abdelatty emphasized the need to follow up and deliver on the financial commitments announced during the conference to provide life-saving humanitarian aid to those in need in the embattled strip. (MENA)
