CAIRO, April 6 (MENA) - Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Social Affairs Sector at the Arab League (AL) ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh said Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a basis of all aspects of life, especially that economic, social, technology and artificial intelligence constitute key elements for the success of development projects in the various relevant sectors.

Addressing the extraordinary session of the AL's Economic and Social Council at the level of senior officials held Sunday under the presidency of Bahrain, the pan Arab body's assistant secretary general said: “We are meeting today in the extraordinary session of the Economic and Social Council at the level of senior officials to discuss the important topics proposed by member states, the General Secretariat and the ministerial councils to be presented for the Arab Summit in its 34th session and the Arab Development Summit: Economic and social sessions in their 5th session, to be held in exceptional circumstances that have greatly affected the region's development progress.

The two summits will focus on issues that represent a priority for the Arab people, taking into account developments and priorities, most notably the stability and establishment of security and peace in the region, with a view to completing the development process, so that Arab people will reap its fruits, Abu Ghazaleh said.

She said the issue of food security and solar energy, as well as sheltering displaced Palestinian families as a result of the inhumane practices of Israeli occupation will figure high on discussions.

The issue of investing in health human resources and developing school and university health, as well as the economic and social empowerment of Arab women will also be tackled, according to the AL official.

Abu Ghazaleh indicated that crystallizing an Arab stand in preparation for the Second World Summit for Social Development is a priority in the summit file, as it would help in further supporting the Arab stand and set the social priorities of Arab individuals before the anticipated summit.

She shed light on the important initiative of the AL's Secretary-General Ahmed Abul Gheit, “The Arab Initiative for Artificial Intelligence: Towards Technological Leadership and Sustainable Development.”

The initiative aims at supporting all relevant tracks, said the AL official, voicing hope that the meeting would succeed in contributing to the outcome of the expected summit in Iraq , with a view to adopting decisions that would enhance joint Arab development work. (MENA)
