CAIRO, April 2 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty discussed, during a phone call on Wednesday with his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi, the Egyptian-Qatari efforts to restore calm and solidify the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, particularly in light of the deteriorating humanitarian situation there.

The two ministers also discussed the escalating negative developments in the West Bank amid Israel’s dangerous escalation policy, repeated incursions into Palestinian cities, land confiscations, increasing settlement activity, and ongoing Israeli provocations, the latest being the Israeli national security minister’s storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The call is part of regular consultations between the two countries on the overall Palestinian cause as well as developments in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem, amid continued Israeli escalation and blatant violations of international law.

The discussion also covered the work of the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee and ways to activate its role in supporting the Palestinian people and implementing the outcomes of the emergency Arab summit held in Cairo on March 4.

The conversation reflected the alignment of both countries’ positions on developments in the Palestinian territories, with both sides emphasizing that stability in the region cannot be achieved without the Palestinian people obtaining their full legitimate rights, foremost among them the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
