CAIRO, April 3 (MENA) - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli asserted the utmost keenness on following up on efforts of the Consumer Protection Agency (CPA) and on boosting its active role in raising the awareness of consumers against illegal practices.

In cooperation with regulatory bodies, CPA is acting to monitor the markets and combat all harmful practices, as commercial fraud, lack of commitment to quality standards.

The premier's remarks came at a meeting on Thursday with Chairman of CPA Ibrahim el Sagini to discuss the agency's efforts since January 2024 until March 2025.

Sagini briefed Madbouli on efforts of the agency in the aforementioned period.

Inspection campaigns were launched on markets to detect any violations in the relevant period such as selling unlicensed food products, he said.

CPA and its regional branches in the governorates conducted 10 regulatory campaigns from January 2024 to March 2025 on commercial establishments across governorates, added Sagini.

Sagini stated that these regulatory campaigns achieved positive results contributing to the agency's vision of safeguarding and protecting consumers' rights, combating all harmful practices in markets and enhancing its role in law enforcement by ensuring the health and safety of consumers and establishing the necessary rules and standards for consumer rights and market regulation.

Regarding the second area related to the Consumer Protection Agency's efforts in receiving citizens' complaints through central administrations and regional branches in the governorates, the head of the agency clarified that the central administrations include departments for durable goods, miscellaneous goods, telecommunications, automobiles, investigations, real estate, misleading advertisements, and services.

He pointed out that the total number of complaints received by these departments reached 238,1 complaints with about 96.77 % of those complaints resolved.

In this area, Sagini said complaints are received via WhatsApp, the hotline, the internet, hand delivery, mobile applications, the unified government complaints system, social media, consumer protection associations and other electronic means. (MENA)
