CAIRO, April 2 (MENA) - Egypt has strongly denounced the Israeli national security minister’s storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque under police protection.
In a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, Egypt condemned the action as a provocative and unacceptable escalation that ignites feelings of anger among Muslims worldwide on the third day of Eid al-Fitr.
In addition to the illegality and illegitimacy of any Israeli actions concerning the Al-Aqsa Mosque as an exclusive place of worship for Muslims, such extreme measures represent a clear violation of international law and lead significantly to instability in the region, the statement read.
Egypt warned against the consequences of continuing such highly provocative and reckless approach, stressing the need to uphold the legal and historical status of religious sanctities in Jerusalem.
Egypt also cautioned against any attempts to tamper with these holy sites, emphasizing that the continued failure to halt Israeli provocations could trigger a widespread wave of anger, potentially leading to an explosion of tensions in the Middle East and serious repercussions for international peace and security.
