CAIRO, March 28 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Friday received a phone call from Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam to discuss developments in the Arab country.

During the call, Salam briefed Abdelatty on the latest updates following Israeli airstrikes targeting Beirut’s southern suburbs (Dahieh).

The top diplomat reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Lebanon and strongly condemned the bombing of a building in Beirut earlier in the day.

He reiterated Egypt’s rejection of any actions that could undermine the security, safety, and stability of the Lebanese people.

Abdelatty also stressed the need for the full adherence to the agreement on the cessation of hostilities in southern Lebanon.

He called for the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon and for enabling the Lebanese army to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

He emphasized the importance of the full and simultaneous implementation of the resolution by all parties without selectivity.

The minister expressed Egypt’s deep concern over the dangerous escalation in Lebanon, warning of its potential risks that could drag the region into a serious confrontation threatening regional security.

He also underscored the need for the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in stopping Israel’s repeated violations of Lebanese sovereignty in all forms, ensuring Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, security, and stability.

The minister highlighted Egypt’s urgent diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the situation through contacts with regional and international parties. (MENA)
