CAIRO, Nov 20 (MENA) - New Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed el-Shenawy holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Cairo University and a master’s degree in International Law from the University of London.
The newly appointed spokesman for the presidency started his career as deputy prosecutor general. In 1955, he joined the Foreign Ministry, starting his diplomatic career in the Department of International Legal Affairs and Treaties. Then, he served in the Egyptian embassy in The Hague, and joined the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs after finishing his stint abroad and returning to Cairo.
Shenawy served in the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the United Nations (UN) in New York and after the end of his tenure and return to Cairo he once again joined the Foreign Minister's Office.
He rejoined the Permanent Mission of Egypt to the UN in New York and was part of the team representing Egypt during its membership of the UN Security Council.
In 2019, he served as deputy assistant secretary of state for the Foreign Minister's Office, until he was appointed as Egypt's ambassador to Hungary, before he was named as the official spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency.
During his long professional diplomatic career, ambassador Shenawy participated in meetings of the UN General Assembly from 2007 to 2019 and as a member of the Egyptian delegation in the negotiation process of the maritime border demarcation between Egypt and Greece.
He also participated in Egypt’s campaign to obtain a non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council (UNSC) for 2016/2017.
Shenawy was also responsible for the file of Egypt’s presidency of the Counter-Terrorism Committee of the UNSC and the expert representing Egypt in the main UN General Assembly (UNGA) committees concerned with legal affairs and financial and administrative matters of the UN, and UN peacekeeping and peace-building operations, as well as negotiations related to the UNSC's expansion and reform.
He also participated throughout his successful and long career in many international meetings and as a member of a number of national committees. (MENA)
