CAIRO, Feb 11 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty wrapped up his visit to the United States and headed Tuesday to Addis Ababa where he will lead Egypt’s delegation to the 46th ordinary session of the Executive Council of the African Union, scheduled for February 12-13, in preparation for the upcoming AU summit.
Abdelatty is expected to hold several one-on-one meetings with his African counterparts and senior officials of the African Union to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations and coordinate on various regional issues and crises, according to a statement to the press.
Egypt's participation in these meetings is part of its pivotal role within the African Union institutions, aiming to support the continent's agenda in areas such as development, security and AU institutional reforms.
The Executive Council talks will take up several priority issues on the African Union's joint agenda, including elections for leadership positions within the AU Commission, peace and security issues, economic integration, the African Free Trade Area, the implementation of Africa’s Agenda 2063, and mechanisms to strengthen the role of the AU and its institutions in addressing regional and international challenges.
