CAIRO, Feb 11 (MENA) - Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty asserted the importance of the Egyptian-US cooperation to realize just peace between the Palestinians and Israelis in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and establish an independent Palestinian state under the two-state solution.

Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting on Tuesday with US House Foreign Affairs Committee chairman Rep. Brian Mast.

The get-together was part of a series of meetings held by the foreign minister in Washington with heads of Congress committees.

Abdelatty congratulated Mast for assuming his new post as the chairman of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee.

The foreign minister said he is looking forward to cooperating with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House.

He stressed the importance of joint work to bolster the strategic partnership between Egypt and the US which dates back to more than four decades.

The talks tackled the latest developments in the Middle East.

Abdelatty stressed the importance of putting into effect the agreement on ceasefire in Gaza and prisoner-hostage swap in three stages as well as starting early recovery and reconstruction.

Reviewing the conditions in Sudan, Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's stand supporting the Sudanese institutions and the importance of ceasing fire and respecting the sovereignty of Sudan as well as integrity of its lands.

Concerning the developments in Syria, Abdelatty underlined Egypt's support for Syria and the importance of respecting the unity of Syrian lands.

He urged launching a political process bringing together all factions of the Syrian community so that Syria would be a source of stability in the region.

As for the developments in Lebanon, he welcomed the election of President Joseph Aoun and forming a Lebanese government.

He voiced hope that these steps would contribute to realizing security and stability in Lebanon.

He accentuated the importance of consolidating the ceasefire in Lebanon and supporting the Lebanese national army to perform its duty.

Regarding the situation in Libya, he asserted the importance of working on solving the executive authority crisis as soon as possible in addition to forming a new unified government in order to hold presidential and parliamentary elections.

He underlined the importance of supporting the Libyan-Libyan solution and ending all forms of foreign presence in Libya in order to maintain its unity and sovereignty. (MENA)
