CAIRO, Jan 9 (MENA) - President of the European Parliament (EP) Roberta Metsola Thursday affirmed appreciation of the European Union (EU) and its Member States of Egypt and its wise role in protecting regional stability and security.

Metsola underscored keenness of the EU on enhancing coordination and consultation with Egypt in all issues of mutual concern.

The EP president made the remarks during a meeting with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, in the presence of House of Representatives Speaker Hanafy el Gebaly and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Badr Abdelatty .

The meeting was also attended by Head of the EU Delegation to Egypt Angelina Eichhorst.

President Sisi congratulated Metsola on her appointment as the EP president, emphasizing Egypt's willingness to uphold joint work to enhance partnership between Egypt and the EU, including promoting parliamentary relations with the European side, according to Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el Shennawy.

The meeting tackled ways of developing relations between Egypt and the European Union, the spokesman said, adding that the two sides discussed cooperation in economic, investment and trade domains.

Mechanisms of activating the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two sides with all its aspects were discussed during the meeting, Shennawy said. (MORE)
