CAIRO, July 3 (MENA) – Austrian Minister of Foreign Affairs Beate Meinl-Reisinger praised Egypt and the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) for supporting war-affected regions, especially Gaza, describing Egypt as a stabilizing force and backing its call for unimpeded humanitarian aid to the territory.
During her visit to the ERC headquarters in Cairo, she met with ERC officials, including former minister of health and population Adel Al-Adawy and ERC Executive Director Amal Emam, who presented Egypt’s efforts in coordinating humanitarian assistance for Gaza.
For her part, Amal Emam explained the ERC's role in managing aid operations through Egypt’s borders, with its logistics centers in Arish processing aid from local and international sources according to international standards.
She added that Egypt has kept its crossings open since October 2023, delivering the largest volume of aid into Gaza.
Emam noted that the institute addressed the severe challenges caused by the ongoing closure of crossings on the other side, worsening humanitarian conditions, and the urgent need for safe aid corridors.
She affirmed that the ERC played a great role in receiving and assisting Gaza’s injured since November 2023, and its ongoing efforts supporting Sudanese refugees since April 2023, providing services at border points without refugee camps.
During the visit, the Austrian minister toured the ERC operations room, reviewed its monitoring systems, and participated in preparing an aid box for Gaza, adding a handwritten message: “A heartfelt message to all who endure hardship. From Austria, we send our love.”
