CAIRO, April 6 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has signed Law No. 12 of 2025, issuing the new Social Security Law.
The law applies to Egyptians not covered by any social insurance system and who are unable to support themselves or their families, particularly in cases of disability or old age.
Additionally, it extends to foreign nationals living in Egypt, as long as Egyptians receive similar financial and in-kind support in the countries these foreigners hail from.
The president has the authority to waive this reciprocity requirement based on considerations determined by the state.
Under the new legislation, the “Takaful and Karama Fund", established by the attached law, will replace the Central Social Security Fund created by Law No. 137 of 2010. The new fund will assume all assets, liabilities, and rights of the previous fund.
The law repeals Law No. 137 of 2010 on Social Security and Article 49 of the Child Law (Law No. 12 of 1996), along with any provisions that contradict the new law and its annex.
The new law has been published in the Official Gazette. (MENA)
