Macron said France and Egypt share a common vision regarding the situation in the region.
He thanked President Sisi for welcoming the French delegation to Arish, saying "I am pleased to be with by your side at this forward position to support civilians in Gaza."
"Our shared vision is aligned, and thus our cooperation is crucial. We condemn the renewed Israeli strikes on Gaza, which represent a tragic setback for civilians, hostages, families, and the entire region," Macron said.
He called for the immediate restoration of the ceasefire and the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, as well as the prompt and constructive resumption of negotiations. He also commended Egypt’s ongoing efforts to achieve both goals.
"We strongly oppose the forced displacement of populations and the annexation of Gaza and the West Bank, as these actions violate international law and pose a serious threat to regional security, including the security of Israel," Macron stated.
He also reiterated support for the Gaza reconstruction plan adopted by the Arab League on March 4 and commended Egypt for its crucial work in this area, which opens the path for rebuilding Gaza. "This effort should also pave the way for a new Palestinian governance in the enclave under the leadership of the Palestinian Authority, without any role for Hamas. The Israeli threat must also be lifted."
"We believe that only a political solution can ensure stability and security in Gaza and the surrounding region. This belief underpins the preparations for the upcoming conference that France and Saudi Arabia will co-chair, in close coordination with Egypt, Macron said.
He affirmed that France and Egypt are aligned on a shared agenda for regional stability. "Both countries are concerned about the risk of escalation in the Red Sea, where freedom of navigation must be preserved. The passage of the French naval air group through the Suez Canal demonstrates France’s commitment in this regard."
Macron said that both countries wish to find a diplomatic solution to the Iranian nuclear crisis. “We discussed the file yesterday, as escalation would further destabilize the region. France is working with its partners to restrict Iran’s nuclear program as much as possible, as well as to address the missile issue and Iranian interventions in neighboring countries." (MORE)
