CAIRO, Feb 12 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty called for stronger African cooperation to confront security threats, climate change, water scarcity, and migration.
Addressing the 46th Ordinary Session of the African Union Executive Council, he stressed the need for collective action in an increasingly polarized world.
Abdelatty urged a review of the AU’s sanctions and suspension policies, warning that prolonged exclusions could create instability. He also reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to post-conflict reconstruction and development, highlighting President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s leadership in the NEPAD Steering Committee.
He also called for more funding to support peacekeeping and reconstruction efforts.
The top diplomat pushed for institutional reforms within the AU, ensuring its structures effectively serve African nations.
On regional issues, the minister reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Palestinian rights and stressed the importance of maintaining Africa’s unified stance.
The top diplomat also addressed the crisis in Sudan, tensions in the Horn of Africa, and instability in the Red Sea and Eastern Congo, calling for diplomatic solutions and respect for sovereignty.
Additionally, he praised the AU’s Budget and Finance Committee, chaired by Egypt, for its contributions to peace efforts. (MENA)
