CAIRO, March 27 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty had a phone call on Thursday with his Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) counterpart Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner within the framework of the distinguished relations between Egypt and the DRC.
The two sides stressed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields.
They discussed overall relations between the two countries and ways to enhance existing cooperation at all levels.
They agreed to activate joint cooperation mechanisms to serve the mutual interests of both countries.
The call also addressed regional developments, particularly the developments as regards the crisis in eastern Congo.
Abdelatty said Egypt fully supports all peaceful efforts aimed at achieving stability and reaching a comprehensive and lasting settlement to the conflict.
In this context, the two ministers discussed the outcomes of the Doha meeting and the agreed-upon implementation steps, as well as the joint ministerial meeting between the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the East African Community (EAC) held on March 17 in Harare, Zimbabwe, which resulted in an agreement on implementation steps for a ceasefire and cessation of hostilities, as well as the establishment of a general secretariat to monitor the implementation of the resolutions.
Abdelatty also welcomed efforts to de-escalate the situation and commended the decision of the joint virtual summit between the SADC and the EAC held on March 24, which aimed to support the peace process by appointing a five-member panel of facilitators to lead peace talks. (MENA)
