CAIRO, Feb 20 (MENA) - Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawy on Thursday discussed with Italian ambassador to Egypt Michele Quaroni and Chief Executive Officer and Cheif Operating Officer of Italian company Maire Tecnimont Alessandro Bernini ways of enhancing cooperation in the green petrochemicals domain.

They agreed to develop a work program to implement a joint project between the petroleum sector and the Italian company in the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

The petroleum minister, in a statement issued by the Petroleum Ministry on Thursday, said partnership between Egypt and Italy is historic and has yield several achievements.

He also said Egypt possesses all key potentials to become a producer of sustainable aviation fuel, highlighting ongoing coordination with the Ministry of Environment in the implementation of environmentally friendly projects.

For his part, the Italian ambassador hailed strategic relations between the two countries as "historic", highlighting desire to strengthen this partnership in a way that benefits both countries.

The implementation of the SAF project in Egypt, in light of the country's adequate resources for the industry, will enable it to become a major supplier of this product to European markets, Quaroni said.

Meanwhile, the CEO of Maire Tecnimont underscored the company's willingness to carry out the SAF project in Egypt, along with accelerating its implementation.

Sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) are defined as renewable or waste-derived aviation fuels that meets sustainability criteria. (MENA)
