CAIRO, Nov 14 (MENA) - Kemet Boutros Ghali Foundation for Peace and Knowledge has granted its annual award to Mozambican activist, politician and human rights activist Graça Machel, wife of the late South African leader Nelson Mandela, in appreciation of her efforts for the African continent.

Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation Mamdouh Abbas presented the award, saying “in continuation of the traditions followed by the Foundation, it celebrates today the personality who won the annual award by consensus of the members of the Board of Trustees, African activist and politician Graça Machel.

The Chairman of the Foundation appreciated the great humanitarian efforts made by Machel, and her distinguished pursuit of peace, justice and human rights in the African continent.

Machel was unable to attend due to the circumstances that her country Mozambique is going through, and delegated her daughter Josena Machel to receive the award on her behalf.

Machel, in a few words, since she joined the Mozambican Liberation Movement and then worked as Minister of Education after independence, she was preoccupied with defending the rights of women and children.

Machel and late president of South Africa Nelson Mandela formed a group to work on spreading peace in the African continent, which included a number of important figures in the black continent. (MENA)
