CAIRO, June 24 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty made a phone call with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss the latest regional developments, underscoring the need for respecting the sovereignty of Gulf states and other sisterly Arab nations.

Abdelatty condemned any violation of the unity and territorial integrity of Gulf states and Arab nations, underlining the necessity for adhering to the principle of good neighborliness.

He also expressed Egypt’s welcome of the Iran-Israel ceasefire agreement announced early Tuesday by the US president, underscoring the need for committing to abiding by the agreement by both the Israeli and Iranian sides.

The deal is a pivotal step to de-escalate and defuse the recent regional tensions and restore stability and pave the way for political and diplomatic pathways, Abdelatty said.

The minister also emphasized the importance of exercising restraint during this critical period, noting that both sides need to take practical steps to contain tensions.

He affirmed Egypt’s commitment to continued coordination and consultation with all regional and international partners to support regional security and stability.

For his part, the Iranian minister affirmed his country’s respect for the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Qatar and all other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, reiterating Iran's commitment to the principle of good neighborliness.

Both ministers agreed to continue working toward de-escalation in the region. (MENA)
