CAIRO, June 24 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call Tuesday with Senior Advisor to the US President on Arab and Middle Eastern Affairs Massad Boulos to discuss the latest developments in Libya, Sudan and the Great Lakes region.

The call included an exchange of views on the evolving situation in those regions, presidential spokesperson Tamim Khallaf said.

Abdelatty emphasized the need to preserve security and stability across all Libyan territory and protect the country's resources and respect its unity and territorial integrity.

He also stressed the importance of dismantling armed militias to help restore peace and stability in Libya.

Regarding the Sudanese crisis, the minister reiterated Egypt’s firm and supportive stance toward Sudan, underlining the importance of maintaining its unity, stability, national institutions, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

He also highlighted Egypt’s commitment to constructively engaging with various regional and international efforts aimed at achieving an immediate ceasefire, in order to alleviate the humanitarian suffering faced by the Sudanese people.

The phone call also addressed developments in the Great Lakes region.

Abdelatty welcomed US efforts that led to the signing of a Declaration of Principles in Washington between the governments of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Rwanda, aimed at achieving peace, stability, and economic development in eastern DRC.

Abdelatty said the step represents a significant development toward reaching a lasting peace agreement that would enhance prospects for regional stability in the Great Lakes region and across the African continent.

He noted that this aligns with US President Donald Trump’s efforts to promote peace and resolve conflicts through peaceful means in both the Middle East and Africa. (MENA)
