CAIRO, June 18 (MENA) - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli affirmed that Egypt possesses strategic reserves of essential commodities sufficient to meet domestic consumption needs.
Madbouli reassured citizens about the availability of various goods in the markets. emphasizing that the government promptly took action to address the implications of the current crisis on multiple fronts, particularly regarding fuel supplies and the enhancement of the country’s stockpile of all basic strategic goods.
This came during Madbouli’s chairing of the weekly Cabinet meeting Wednesday, to discuss a number of issues and files.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister addressed the worsening situation and growing tensions in the region over the past few days, reiterating Egypt’s firm rejection of any expansion of the conflict in the region.
He stressed the urgent need to stop Israeli military operations across various regional fronts, warning that continued escalation would have severe consequences for all the peoples of the region—without exception—as well as for the entire world.
Madbouli noted that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has, in his meetings and phone calls with various world leaders, stressed the importance of the international community playing a more active role in urging regional parties to act responsibly, affirming that peaceful solutions remain the only path to ensuring security and stability in the region.
In this context, he referred to a decision he issued to form a "Crisis Committee" under his leadership, tasked with monitoring the repercussions of the Iranian-Israeli military operations, to help prepare for any developments across various sectors.
Regarding the domestic impact of the conflict, the Prime Minister stated that he will meet regularly with the committee members. He added that its first meeting will be held today after the Cabinet session. He also pointed out that he is currently intensifying his meetings with various advisory committees to assess the consequences of the recent events and their effects on different sectors of the state.
In this regard, Madbouli also urged citizens to be highly mindful of electricity consumption under these exceptional circumstances, stressing the government's commitment to supplying power plants with the necessary fuel to ensure their efficient operation.
Madbouli reassured citizens that there is no cause for concern regarding the availability of any basic commodities, as Egypt has strategic reserves that meet domestic demand. He noted that the government continues to monitor developments at all levels and is preparing multiple scenarios to address potential changes, expressing hope that stability would return to the region as soon as possible.
