CAIRO, BAGHDAD, May 15 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's full support for Somalia's unity and sovereignty given the stability of the Arab-African country is an integral part of the stability of the region as a whole.

Abdelatty made the remarks during his meeting on Thursday with Somalia's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdisalam Abdi Ali on the sidelines of a preparatory meeting of Arab foreign ministers ahead of the 34th Arab Summit, which is set to take place in Iraq's Baghdad on Saturday.

Abdelatty congratulated the Somali foreign minister on assuming his new post.

The foreign minister highlighted Egypt's keenness to strengthen relations with Somalia, which had been elevated to the level of strategic partnership in January 2025, underlining the importance of expanding the existing cooperation in different political, economic and security areas, in a way that serves the two countries' interests and peoples.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's commitment to the effective participation in joint African efforts aimed at supporting Somalia's capacity-building and enabling its institutions to perform their duties.

The top Egyptian diplomat stated that Egypt coordinates with international partners, with a view to backing the African Union Stabilization Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) to undertake its tasks efficiently and effectively.

The foreign minister underscored the significance of enhancing the capacity of the Somali Federal Government to preserve the country's security and stability, while respecting its sovereignty.

On his part, the Somali foreign minister lauded Egypt's supportive stance for achieving stability in Somalia and its involvement in the AUSSOM, at the Somali Federal Government's request.

Ali said Somalia is keen on deepening cooperation with Egypt in various fields. (MENA)
