CAIRO, May 14 (MENA) - The National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics (NRIAG) announced that, so far, the instruments of the National Seismic Network—affiliated with the Institute—have not recorded any aftershocks following a recent earthquake in the Mediterranean Sea.
Earlier, at 1:51:15 AM on Wednesday, the stations of the National Seismic Network recorded an earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was located 631 kilometers north of Rashid, or Rosetta, which is a port city of the Nile Delta, 65 km (40 mi) east of Alexandria, in Egypt's Beheira governorate.
In an official statement, NRIAG acting president Dr. Taha Tawfiq Rabeh clarified that the seismic event occurred at a latitude of 35.12 degrees north, a longitude of 27.0 degrees east, and at a depth of 76 kilometers. He also confirmed that while the tremor was felt by residents, no casualties or property damage were reported.
