MARSA ALAM, Egypt, May 15 (MENA) - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli and his accompanying delegation on Thursday inspected the phases of gold ore production at the Sukari mine in the Red Sea resort city of Marsa Alam.
The tour followed Madbouli's meeting with CEO of AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) Alberto Calderon.
The premier also toured the gold extraction plant, which employs techniques like crushing, grinding, cyanide leaching, flotation, and vortex separation.
Crushing and Grinding: The ore is crushed and ground to increase the surface area exposed to the leaching solution, which helps in gold extraction.
Cyanide Leaching: A solution of cyanide is used to leach the gold from the ore.
Flotation and Vortex Separation (Cyclones): These methods are used to separate the gold-bearing particles from the rest of the ore slurry.
The mine currently has proven reserves of nearly 6.2 million ounces and is being developed by the AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) to add 4.3 million ounces. In 2024, the mine produced 454,000 gold ounces. (MENA)
