CAIRO, April 9 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said the government is willing to enhance cooperation with online retail giant 'Amazon', given the important role of digital commerce in fostering financial inclusion.

Madbouli was speaking during a meeting with Amazon Stores CEO Doug Herrington and his accompanying delegation at the Cabinet premises in the New Administrative Capital, to discuss opportunities for expanding the company's business in the Egyptian market, and strengthening e-commerce cooperation.

Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El Khatib, Executive Director of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) Hossam Heiba, and Chairman of the General Organization for Export and Import Control (GOEIC) Essam El-Naggar attended the meeting.

Madbouli said the government is keen on supporting the company's investments in Egypt, expressing appreciation for Amazon's role in promoting e-commerce.

Meanwhile, Herrington thanked the Egyptian government for its constant support for Amazon's business in Egypt, citing some of Amazon's milestone achievements in the Egyptian market, such as Amazon's main fulfillment center in the 10th of Ramadan City, and the launch of the largest customer service center in the region.

He said the company looks at Egypt as a strategic market with tremendous potential, asserting Amazon's commitment to investing in infrastructure and job creation.

"We look forward to furthering our partnership with the Egyptian government to support digital transformation and economic growth," Herrington said, highlighting also the company's ongoing efforts to empower thousands of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to thrive through its digital platform.

Herrington said he looks forward to further cooperation with the Egyptian government to streamline procedures and encourage more local businesses to embrace digital economy.

For his part, Khatib shed light on the advantages Egypt offers as an investment destination, especially the young skilled labor force that can support the company's business and services. He said his ministry will study the company's proposals for supporting its investments and promoting digital commerce in Egypt. (MENA)
