CAIRO, Feb 7 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Friday received a phone call from UN Secretary General António Guterres to review Egypt's efforts to stabilize the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and exchange Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners.
During the phone conversation, the two sides also reviewed efforts made to facilitate the access of humanitarian aid into the Palestinian enclave, said Presidential Spokesman Mohamed El-Shenawy.
They also highlighted the pivotal role played by the UNRWA to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of Gaza residents, underlining the importance of uniting the international community's endeavors to enable the UN agency to undertake its duties in accordance with the relevant UN resolutions.
Sisi and Guterres called for accelerating the reconstruction process in Gaza, which in turn contributes to restoring normal life in the Palestinian enclave.
In this regard, the Egyptian president and the UN chief reiterated their rejection to any attempts to displace Gaza residents, calling on the international community to advance the implementation of the two-state solution, which guarantees the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 borders, as being the only way to bring about lasting peace and the desired stability in the Middle East.
They also tackled the developments in Lebanon, underscoring the importance of stabilizing the existing ceasefire to restore stability in the country.
They also discussed the situation in Syria, Sudan, Libya and Somalia. In this regard, President Sisi stressed Egypt's keenness to maintain stability in those countries and preserve their unity and territorial integrity. (MENA)
