CAIRO, Jan 16 (MENA) - Egypt has been contributing to brokering a truce agreement in Gaza and adding the final touches to it in coordination with sisterly Qatar and US, said Mohamed Ibrahim Eldawiry.
He added that Egypt is continuing its never-ceasing efforts to ensure the implementation of the deal.
In statements to MENA on Thursday, Eldawiry said the announcement of reaching the agreement on the Gaza truce is considered a "positive matter" despite the depth of the humanitarian catastrophe in the aftermath of the war.
He further said the agreement will put an end to the catastrophe in the Gaza Strip since October, 2023.
Eldawiry said the sustained ceasefire must be viewed—first—as the sole way to halt this catastrophe after 15 months.
Then, we can talk about details and three phases of the deal that will achieve finally very important steps even in short and different timetables, he added.
He said the agreement will be a "prelude" to gradually changing the situation in the Gaza Strip.
The first phase of the deal will jump-start on January 19. Negotiations will follow to agree on all steps of the second phase and the third one until its full implementation, he explained.
Shifting to the Egyptian role in reaching the truce agreement, he pointed out that the country has been acting to find a just and fair solution to the Palestinian cause along with the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank, Al-Quds and the Gaza Strip.
Egypt has been adopting a clear-cut position regarding the country's complete rejection of the liquidation attempts of the Palestinian cause and the displacement of the Gazans. (MENA)
