CAIRO, Jan 16 (MENA) - The recent agreement on the release of Palestinian prisoners represents a real achievement, despite the massive destruction witnessed in the Gaza Strip, Spokesperson for the Palestinian Prisoners' Affairs Authority Thaer Shriteh said Thursday.

Speaking to Nile Radio, Shriteh added that the agreement includes the release of thousands of prisoners, especially those sentenced to life imprisonment, and will be implemented in studied stages over the coming weeks.

Shriteh stressed the importance of caution and following up on the implementation of the agreement, emphasizing the need for continuous monitoring by the Egyptian and Qatari negotiators to prevent any attempts to breach it by the Israeli occupation.

He also expressed his great appreciation for the great efforts made by Egypt to end the war and bring humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, stressing that the Palestinian people appreciate the pivotal role of Egypt in supporting Arab issues in general and Palestinian issues in particular.

Shriteh paid special tribute to the Egyptian media for its distinguished coverage of the events of the Palestinian cause with complete integrity and transparency, expressing the Palestinian leadership’s thanks to Egypt, its leadership, and its people for continuous support. (MENA)
