CAIRO, Nov 14 (MENA) - The cabinet, under Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, stressed on Thursday that the government respects the Supreme Constitutional Court's ruling on the old rental law.
The Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) ruled on Saturday that the 7 percent flat rate in the Old Rental Law for residential properties is unconstitutional and called on the Egyptian parliament to amend the law.
At a press conference following the weekly cabinet meeting, Madbouli said the government is now coordinating with the House of Representatives to lay down different scenarios to put into effect the court ruling while taking into consideration the rights of landlords and tenants.
The SCC also stressed that legislative intervention is necessary to ensure fairness, prevent landlords from exploiting tenants' housing needs, and protect the value of property investments, including land and buildings. (MENA)
