CAIRO, Nov 11 (MENA) - Minister of Social Solidarity and Board Chairperson of the Fund for Combating and Treating Addiction and Drug Abuse Maya Morsi launched, on behalf of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, the National Strategy for Combating Drugs and Reducing the Risks of Drug Abuse and Drug Addiction on Monday.
The national plan was launched under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, in the presence of a number of ministers, MPs and prominent media personalities.
In a word delivered on his behalf by Morsi, Madbouli said the government was keen on developing the related legislative infrastructure and relevant laws.
The most important axes of the plan’s work will be reviewed during the coming period in the presence of the ministries and institutions concerned.
Morsi had witnessed the closing activities of the "Our Strength is in Our Youth" Camp to build the capacities of 1,000 new volunteers out of a total of 4,000 young men and women who applied to join the anti-addiction fund's Volunteer Association.
Interviews were conducted with the participants and a number of volunteers were selected after they passed the tests as they had the ability to communicate and work in teams, as well as in the field, and also had various talents to invest in implementing awareness programs.
They were trained through the camp, which lasted for a week at the Youth City affiliated with the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Alexandria Governorate, to implement drug prevention programs, within the framework of keenness to invest the positive energies of young people and prepare training programs that qualify them as leaders for volunteer work, to participate in implementing awareness initiatives to protect young people from falling into the clutches of addiction.
The fund currently operates 34,000 volunteers across all Egyptian governorates. (MENA)
