CAIRO, July 6 (MENA) - The Sudanese political forces lauded the Cairo-hosted conference, held on Saturday under the theme of "together to halt the war in Sudan", as a step towards reaching a consensus among the national political actors to resolve the Sudanese crisis.

Speaking to MENA on the sidelines of the conference, Vice President of the Democratic Unionist Party of Sudan Jaafar Al Mirghani commended the conference, saying the most significant thing about it is that it brought together parties from across the whole political spectrum in Sudan.

This is an unprecedented situation, as the conference is broad in terms of attendance and bringing the differing Sudanese factions to sit down together, he further noted.

He also lauded the genuine effort exerted by Egypt to organize the conference, saying it is a step in the right direction to reach consensus among the different civil and political forces to serve as a roadmap for the transitional period.

The Cairo Conference is pushing towards reaching a roadmap for the future to find a political solution to the conflict in Sudan, ending the war, and addressing the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid, Mirghani said.

The conference also helps in setting the stage for establishing a new future and a new Sudanese state that takes into account the diverse nature of the Sudanese society and for building a new security system that puts an end to the armed conflict, he stressed.

Head of the Sudanese Democratic Alliance for Social Justice Mubarak Ardol said this conference represents a success for the Egyptian role in developing approaches and solutions to the Sudanese crisis.

Ardol, who is also a member of the Forces for Freedom and Change's political committee, underlined the success of Egypt's efforts as a first step in bringing together the different stakeholders and parties to the political crisis in Sudan.

This is the first meeting in years to discuss the enormous Sudanese challenges and issues, he said, adding the initiatives, which were launched in the past period, failed to achieve success.

For his part, Secretary-General of the Sudanese Ansar Affairs Authority Abdel Mahmoud Abu said the scale of the Sudanese presence in the Cairo-hosted conference has not occurred since the outbreak of the war in Sudan 14 months ago.

This reflects Egypt's major role, and the great status of the Egyptian leadership and people among the Sudanese people, he added.

The conference discussed three key issues; stopping the war, the humanitarian crisis, and reaching a political vision to get out of this crisis, he said. (MENA)
