CAIRO, July 3 ( MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, during which they discussed the rapidly growing regional developments.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on Thursday that Minister Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm stance calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages and detainees.

They reviewed, in this regard, the intensive communications Egypt is conducting with all parties to swiftly achieve a ceasefire.

The Foreign Minister also outlined Egypt’s ongoing efforts to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The discussion also touched upon the upcoming conference on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, which Egypt plans to host in cooperation with the United Nations and the Palestinian government, following the establishment of a ceasefire.

On another front, the Foreign Minister reviewed Egypt’s intensive communications with parties concerned to stabilize the ceasefire between Iran and Israel and to resume negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program, in a way that contributes to de-escalation.

The foreign minister affirmed that Egypt will continue its efforts and engagement to achieve security and stability in the region.

Abdelatty and the UN Secretary-General also exchanged views on developments in Sudan, where the Minister affirmed Egypt’s full support for Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity, and the need for an immediate and sustainable ceasefire.

He stressed the importance of prioritizing dialogue and peaceful solutions to preserve the capabilities of the brotherly Sudanese people, urging the international community to intensify efforts to support the political process and create favorable conditions for restoring stability and security in Sudan.

The call also addressed the situation in Somalia, where the Foreign Minister expressed Egypt’s full support for the African Union Mission to support and stabilize Somalia. He noted that Egypt’s participation stems from its firm commitment to supporting security and stability in Somalia.

He emphasized that Egypt’s role aims to empower Somali state institutions and assist national bodies in confronting terrorist threats, calling for the provision of necessary technical and financial support to achieve the mission’s goals. (MENA)
