WASHINGTON, May 21 (MENA) - The US and Turkey affirmed the importance of preserving the unity and territorial integrity of Syria and preventing it from becoming a safe haven for terrorist groups.

In a statement issued by the US State Department Wednesday following a meeting between US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Nuh Yilmaz, the two sides discussed the implementation of US President Donald Trump's announcement to ease sanctions imposed on Syria.

The statement added that the officials emphasized the strength of bilateral relations between the US and Turkey and considered the current phase the beginning of a new era of partnership.

They also discussed ways to enhance cooperation in the various fields, serving the shared goals of achieving peace and expanding trade and investment. (MENA)
