CAIRO, May 18 (MENA) - President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Sunday reaffirmed the strength of strategic relations between Egypt and the US as well as Egypt's keenness on boosting cooperation in various fields for the benefit of both countries.
President Sisi made the remarks during a meeting with Senior Advisor to the US President on Arab, Middle Eastern and African Affairs Massad Boulos, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Head of Egypt's General Intelligence Service (GIS) Hassan Rashad.
The meeting was also attended by US Ambassador to Egypt Herro Mustafa Garg and US Deputy Assistant Secretary for North Africa Bureau of Near Eastern Affair Joshua Harris.
Boulos conveyed greetings of US President Donald Trump to President Sisi, Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el Shennawy said, adding that president Sisi appreciated the gesture.
The meeting addressed developments in the Middle East and ways to restore regional stability, the spokesman said.
He added that president Sisi stressed the necessity of reaching an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid to the civilian population.
The president commended joint mediation efforts by Egypt, the US and Qatar and affirmed Egypt’s commitment to maintaining coordination throughout the coming period.
Meanwhile, Boulos underscored the US commitment to continuing joint efforts with Egypt to restore regional calm in a way that serves the interests of all parties.
The meeting tackled the situation in Libya and ways to restore stability there, with president Sisi reiterating Egypt’s commitment to a Libyan-Libyan solution.
The president said that Egypt has been and remains the country most affected by Libya’s instability and the most dedicated to supporting all proposed political settlement steps and consensus on a unified government that enjoys credibility among Libyans, with political support from the House of Representatives, the High Council of State, and the Presidential Council, and whose core mission would be holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections.
The meeting touched on the situation in Lebanon, Sudan, and Yemen. Both sides stressed the urgent need to protect stability in these countries and safeguard their resources, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The meeting also covered developments in Africa, particularly in the Horn of Africa and the Sahel regions, and efforts to underpin stability there. This is in addition to strengthening the role of governments and state institutions to serve the interests of their people. (MENA)
