NEW YORK, May 18 (MENA) - The UN Security Council called Sunday on all Libyan parties to protect civilians, stressing the importance of achieving urgent progress towards achieving lasting peace, stability and security for the Libyan people.
The Council also renewed support for the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and efforts of the special representative of the secretary-general, stressing their full respect for Libya's sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and national unity, the UN Media Center said.
The UN security council members called that those responsible for attacks against civilians be held accountable and welcomed reports indicating reaching a truce, calling for unconditional respect in this regard and for working towards a lasting ceasefire, it added.
They also reaffirmed their strong commitment to an inclusive, Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process facilitated by the UN, emphasizing the need to unify all institutions, including military and security institutions, the Center said. (MENA)
