CAIRO, April 29 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty asserted on Tuesday Egypt's full support for Somalia's unity and territorial integrity and its national institutions.
During a phone call with Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdisalam Abdi Ali, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's total support for efforts made to achieve security and stability in Somalia, stressing the utmost importance of ensuring Somalia's stability for establishing peace and security in the Horn of Africa region.
In statements, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Khallaf Tamim stressed the depth of ties between Egypt and Somalia that have been elevated to the level of strategic partnership in January 2025 during Somali President Hussein Sheikh Mohamud's visit to Egypt.
He underlined the importance of continuing to boost cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic, and security domains with the view to serving the interests of both countries and their peoples.
Abdelatty also pledged Egypt's support for Somalia in confronting terrorism and extremism at this critical stage.
He also expressed Egypt's keenness to provide all forms of support to Somalia in the field of counter-terrorism.
The two top diplomats also exchanged views on means to promote coordination between the two countries to back stability and development in the Horn of Africa.
They also stressed the importance of continuing close consultations between the two countries at the regional and international levels to address the real challenges facing the Horn of Africa.
The Somali minister expressed his appreciation for Egypt's supportive stances towards Somalia at all levels.
He also lauded Egypt's participation in the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), at the request of the Federal Government of Somalia.
He also commended Egypt's commitment to shore up security and stability in Somalia. (MENA)
