During the joint press conference, Abdelatty addressed how Egypt and Lebanon can cooperate to enhance regional stability amid ongoing tensions. He highlighted the work of the Arab-Islamic Ministerial Committee, formed following the emergency Palestine Summit that was held in Cairo last March and chaired by President Sisi, pointing out that the committee is actively engaging with European and other international capitals to mobilize support and resources for reconstruction efforts.
Abdelatty noted the strong international backing for the Arab-Islamic plan, citing the support it has gained from the EU, Japan, China, Russia, Brazil, South Africa, and others. The next step, he said, includes diplomatic tours by the committee to rally support for the upcoming Cairo Reconstruction Conference, which is being organized in coordination with the UN, World Bank, and international partners. “The event is contingent on a ceasefire, which remains the key obstacle due to ongoing violence,” he added.
On Egyptian-Lebanese ties, Abdelatty highlighted a major boost in relations, pointing to President Sisi’s invitation to President Aoun to visit Egypt, and the upcoming session of the Higher Joint Committee. Plans are under way to organize a major business forum involving private sectors from both countries, he said, underlining the importance of the role of private enterprises in deepening bilateral cooperation.
In response to questions, Lebanese minister Raji said his government is actively working with international partners to pressure Israel to fully and unconditionally withdraw from all occupied positions in southern Lebanon. He emphasized the significant diplomatic effort being made in this regard.
When asked about Hezbollah’s disarmament, Raji reiterated President Aoun’s stance that weapons should be solely in the hands of legitimate state forces. He stressed that this is a national priority, reflecting the will of both the state and the people. The current government, he added, is approaching the issue with wisdom and pragmatism.
Regarding ongoing Israeli violations in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, Abdelatty affirmed that Egypt remains actively engaged in diplomatic efforts to halt these actions. He condemned Israel’s disregard for international law and warned that the current climate threatens the foundations of global legal norms.
He expressed concern about growing regional frustration, noting that reliance on force does not guarantee security.
He urged the international community to uphold international law and sovereignty.
Abdelatty also voiced cautious optimism about Lebanon’s future following the election of a new president and the formation of a new government. He stressed the importance of Israel's withdrawal from the remaining five occupied sites in southern Lebanon to allow the Lebanese army to assert full control. He concluded by reiterating Egypt’s firm stance against Israeli violations of the 1974 disengagement agreement with Syria and its continued occupation of Syrian land.
