LUXOR, Egypt, April 18 (MENA) - Luxor governorate held a great celebration in Luxor Temple to observe its winning of the African-Asian Union (AFASU)'s golden award as the "First World Capital of Culture, History, and Heritage".

According to a statement issued by Luxor governorate, the celebration brought together senior officials in the tourism, cultural and media domains from Egypt and the world.

The event was also attended by Khaled Fouda, Presidential Advisor for Local Development and honorary president of the AFASU, Luxor Governor Abdel-Muttalib Amara, AFASU President Hossam Darwish and the Union's Secretary General, Hossam Badreldin and AFASU Board Member and Head of Luxor's Cultural Tourism Marketing Committee Mohamed Othman.

It also brought together MPs from Luxor governorate, the chairman of Luxor city, the deputy governors, a number of tourism experts, representatives of UNESCO and guests of the 15th International Forum on Sustainability, Development, and Advanced Research in Tourism and Heritage.

This prominent event, hosted by Luxor city,
is organized by the Future Egypt Foundation for Heritage, Development, and Innovation in partnership with the ministries of tourism and antiquities and culture, and the European Travel Commission (ETC).

as the ruins of the Egyptian temple complexes at Karnak and Luxor stand within the modern city. Immediately opposite, across the River Nile, lie the monuments, temples and tombs of the West Bank Theban Necropolis, which includes the Valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens.

Luxor City has been awarded the prestigious title of "First World Capital of Culture, History, and Heritage" by the African-Asian Union (AFASU), winning unanimously over Kyoto, Japan.

This recognition highlights Luxor’s global significance as an icon of human culture and civilization and acknowledges its efforts in heritage preservation, cultural development, and sustainable tourism.

The award, presented by AFASU’s Supreme International Committee, serves as an international platform to promote cities with exceptional historical and cultural legacies.

AFASU, an organization dedicated to fostering tourism, culture, technology, and sustainable development, traces its roots to the Afro-Asian Peoples' Solidarity Organization (AAPSO), established at the 1955 Bandung Conference and now comprising members from 92 countries. (MENA)
