CAIRO, April 12 (MENA) - Foreign, Emigration and Expatriates Affairs Minister Badr Abdelatty and UN Senior Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction in Gaza Sigrid Kach discussed how to deal with the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, and ensure safe and sustainable access to humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of civilians inside the war-torn strip.

During a phone call with the UN official on Saturday, Abdelatty deplored Israel's systematic killing of humanitarian and relief personnel and shutting down six UNRWA-affiliated schools, in flagrant violation of international law, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tamim Khallaf.

Emphasizing the urgent need to stop ongoing hostilities and return to a ceasefire agreement, Abdelatty called for intensifying international support for Palestinians in Gaza over the period ahead.

He also briefed the UN official on the Arab reconstruction plan for Gaza, as well as ongoing preparations for an international early recovery and reconstruction conference Egypt will host soon in cooperation with the UN and the Palestinian government

Abdelatty also shared the Egyptian vision for a successful conference, which involves a focus on the role of the private sector and financing mechanisms. The vision also covers the political and security aspects of the future governance of the Gaza Strip. (MENA)
