CAIRO, March 25 (MENA) - Assistant Foreign Minister for Parliamentary Affairs ambassador Heba Zaki discussed with Uzbek ambassador in Cairo Mansour Bek Kelychiv ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation between Egypt and Uzbekistan.

During a meeting Tuesday, the two sides lauded close parliamentary relations between Egypt and Uzbekistan, highlighting regular exchange of delegations and dialogue.

In exclusive statements to MENA the Uzbek ambassador said, an Egyptian delegation consisting of 15 members, headed by Speaker of the Egyptian Parliament Hanafy el-Gebaly will participate in the 150th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), scheduled to be held during the period from April 5 to 9 next, in Tashkent.

Kelychiv referred to the visit of Uzbekistan's Parliament Speaker Tanzila Norboyeva to Egypt in November 2022 and the visit of Malika Kadirkhanova, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Women and Gender Equality of the Oliy Majlis to Egypt in December, 2023.

Meantime he underlined the importance of visits of representatives of the Egyptian Parliament of Uzbekistan, including the participation of Senate Deputy Speaker Phoebe Fawzy in the Asian Women's Forum, held on May 13 and 14, 2024 in Samarkand.

The Uzbek diplomat underscored significance of visits of Egyptian businessmen, members of the Egyptian Senate, heads of large companies and business leaders last June to Uzbekistan, pointing out to the participation of members of the Egyptian Parliament as international observers in the national referendum, in April 2023, and the parliamentary elections held in Uzbekistan, last October.

He also referred to the formation of Parliamentary Friendship Groups in the House of Representatives and the Legislative Chamber of the Uzbek Parliament, as well as in the House of Representatives and the Senate in the Egyptian Parliament.
