RIYADH, March 24 (MENA) - The Muslim World League (MWL) welcomed the statement issued by the meeting of the ministerial committee assigned by the Extraordinary Joint Arab and Islamic Summit with the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy regarding developments in the Gaza Strip.
In a statement, the MWL Secretary-General and Chairman of the Muslim Scholars Association Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdul Karim al-Issa, affirmed - on behalf of the League and its global assemblies, bodies and councils - full support for the statement regarding preserving the right of the Palestinian people to freedom and dignity and the unity and integrity of the occupied Palestinian territories, reported the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) Monday.
All efforts come within the framework of the two-state solution and in a way that would help achieve lasting peace and stability in the region and deter the Israeli occupation government from brutal practices and continued violations of relevant international legitimacy resolutions, said the MWL statement.
The MWL secretary general emphasized the urgent necessity of the statement's call for an immediate return to full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, the release of hostages and detainees to ensure rapid delivery of humanitarian aid, it added.
Issa also referred to the statement's commitment to a political settlement of the conflict based on a two-state solution, paving the way for lasting peace and coexistence among all peoples of the region.
He also noted the commitment to holding a high-level international conference under the auspices of the United Nations next June in New York City, co-chaired by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and France to advance these goals, the MWL said.
Meantime, he welcomed the Arab Recovery and Reconstruction Plan of Gaza, guaranteeing continued presence of the Palestinian people on their land, emphasizing categorical rejection of any transfer or expulsion of the Palestinian people from their land and warning of the dire consequences that would result from such actions, it added.
