Foreign minister Badr Abdelatty said that the Palestinian cause remains central to the region’s stability and highlighted Egypt’s efforts, in coordination with Qatar and the US, to restore calm and stop the Israeli attacks on civilians in Gaza.
He called for urgent adherence to the Gaza ceasefire agreed in January and a swift return to negotiations, which he described as the only way to ensure the release and safety of hostages and prevent further bloodshed.
Abdelatty briefed EU High Representative Kaja Kallas on the Arab-Islamic plan for Gaza reconstruction and thanked the EU for its support, describing the initiative as a vital opportunity for the Palestinian people to rebuild on their land.
He stressed the need to launch a political process leading to a two-state solution with East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state and urged stronger EU support for Egyptian and Arab efforts to secure a permanent ceasefire.
He also called for sustained support to UNRWA and confirmed Egypt is preparing to host an international conference for Gaza’s reconstruction, with the involvement of all relevant international parties.
The meeting also addressed the situation in Syria, where Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Syrian sovereignty and rejected recent escalations.
He warned of rising tensions in Lebanon, describing Israeli military actions as a threat that could trigger a wider conflict. (MORE)
