SOFIA, March 21 (MENA) - The Members of Parliament adopted the state budget for 2025 at the second reading after a plenary sitting lasting nearly 22 hours. The budget does not foresee any tax increases and the budget deficit is set at 3% of GDP, the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) reported.

After the end of the sitting, Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova thanked all those who had supported the adoption of the 2025 state budget law. "Certainly, the 2025 budget could have been better, but the conditions in which it was drawn up made it the best possible budget. I hope that with joint efforts we will make sure that we stabilize Bulgaria's public finances and that for 2026 we will have a better budget and that it will be the first budget in euros," Minister Petkova said.

The MPs accepted the proposal of Maya Dimitrova from BSP - United Left to have no regular plenary sitting on Friday, March 21.

They also voted to approve a total annual quota of BGN 1.6 billion for the provision of food vouchers in electronic form under the Corporate Income Tax Act.

According to the adopted texts of the budget of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, the total funds foreseen amount to BGN 3,513,932,300. For the Ministry of Health, the total funding is BGN 1,203,828,300. For the budget of the Ministry of Education and Science, the approved funds amount to BGN 1,333,961,000.

The funds for the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences amount to BGN 240,292,200, for Sofia University - BGN 192,336,200. The funds earmarked for the Technical University of Sofia are BGN 141,787,000, and the one in Varna - BGN 30 800 600. The money for the Medical University of Sofia is BGN 85,006,900. (MENA)
