CAIRO, March 17 (MENA) - Director General of East Cairo Antiquities Abdullah Saad said strenuous efforts are being exerted to develop a number of archaeological sites in the area as part of project Urban Regeneration for Historic Cairo (URHC).

In an interview with Nile News Channel Monday, the director general of East Cairo Antiquities said, Mosque of Qaytbay is among the most prominent sites being renovated following the completion of the development of of Qansuh Abu Said Dome.

Saad explained that a visitor trail is being created in the Mamluk Cemetery, starting from the Qansuh Abu Said Dome and continuing through Farag Ibn Barquq Complex, ending at the Qaytbay Complex.

He said the Mamluk Cemetery is an essential part of Cairo's cultural and architectural history, adding "Work is also underway to restore and upgrade the archaeological sites within the Sultan Qaytbay Mosque, which is considered one of the largest architectural complexes in the region."

A comprehensive restoration operation of Sultan Qaytbay's seat and fountain has been carried out, reflecting officials' commitment to preserving Cairo's cultural and historical heritage, said the official. (MENA)
